“Choose to be optimistic, it feels better.”
Dalai Lama XIV
I often wonder what people think of me when they look at me - I'm a pessimist when it comes to matters about myself but an optimist when it comes to everything else! Weird I know but oddly true.

Why is it so easy to say nice things about others and yet so hard to say the same things about yourself? A few months back I helped a friend who needed to write some accomplishments and good things - you know where you basically sell yourself. For me, that was easy to do for her, you take a few positives and expand on them right!? Kerching!

Only after I'd helped her complete this and felt good about myself did I realise that all the good qualities she had, I had too. The stuff she'd done, I had too in one form or another. Yet I'd written short three to four line answers about myself but helped her write long, detailed descriptions about herself.

What's going on?! Why is it so hard for us to be optimists in matters concerning ourselves! Although I know this isn’t the case for everyone - I definitely know people that are only too full of praise for their selves.

Only now I’ve realised that praising yourself isn’t a bad thing, even though I myself shy away of it. It can help to boost confidence and self-belief, and self-belief is something that is so important. Often believing and having confidence in yourself will give you that extra push - will let you see that there is a tiny little ray, a gleam, even, of hope.
Because there’s always hope.

And this, people, has made me decide that I too, will be an optimist in all matters. I will be a positive thinker when it comes to matters about myself and everything else.
My glass is half full. I think yours is too!

  1. I suppose people refuse to compliment themselves because they're afraid if they appear conceited to others. But you're right, from time to time, giving ourselves a pat on the back would be rather healthy for boosting our own self esteem. :) It's great that you're more optimistic now, stay positive! :)
