TreatYoSelf&Plan #4


This is, as you probably already know, is my fourth post in the TreatYoSelf&Plan link up - it' where we treat ourselves and plan some goals for the next week as well as review the previous ones :) simples! It's hosted by the lovely Italian Hurricane :)


This week I have to say that I have treated myself quite a bit - my tops from Look Human have arrived (I love them!!), I bought myself a lovely new jacket (I'm not really a shopping kind of person) and I spent most of my time eating lovely food whilst celebrating Eid with my family! :) Oh and finally, I started watching the Originals on Netflix! So a fairly good week treat wise!

Goals from last week: 
  • Read - I have started reading another book and I'm half way through it :) It's one that I'm actually enjoying unlike the last one! 
  • Gym - I have actually been doing way more than I imagined gym wise so I'm very pleased with myself on the gm front. Now I just have to keep it up! 
  • Carmex - is slowly getting used up :)
  • Day out - has been planned for one day next week -  I'll let you know how it goes! 

New Goals:
  • Keep going to the gym/other fitness activities - pretty self explanatory!
  • Keep reading 
  • Do some research/keep sharing my website
  • Post ideas - I haven't been writing much recently so I really want to get back into it! 
  • Take photos :)

TreatYoSelf&Plan #3


This is, as you probably already know, is my third post in the TreatYoSelf&Plan link up - it' where we treat ourselves and plan some goals for the next week as well as review the previous ones :) simples! It's hosted by the lovely Italian Hurricane :)

Also, I should ass that I noticed last week that I haven't been writing the 'treat' part of my post - only the plan so this week I'll do it properly! (I Hope!)


This week has been ok - I made biscuits...I am not a baking type of person, it's really not my scene. But I did it! I made two different types of biscuits and even made a cake today!! It really was a treat eating them :) Another lovely thing I did for myself was bought a small blue vase for me to decorate - and here are the results! 

And finally; this really was a treat to myself as I'd been looking for this tea for ages and have finally found it!! I found cinnamon tea :) I love it - I bought some a while back but when I went back to the supermarket to get more, they had stopped selling it! :( Only last week did I discover that there is another one available to buy :) and what did I it of course!!! ITS SO YUMMY!! 

So goals from last week:
  • Finish that book: I have to confess I've given up on that particular book, so goal unachieved. 
  • New Post: I did it! I finally finished and published the post on fasting that I wanted to - read it here and let me know what you think!
  • Share: I have been sharing the link to my website. I've sent it to friends and people I know in the hope that it will spread and people will be interested. I'd love for you to do the same!! Made By Fatima  

New goals: 

  • I have another book to read - I have a whole stack of them so this week I'd like to start another one!
  • Get slowly back into the gym - I say slowly because I'm aiming to go this weekend having not been for the past month. I decided to take a break whilst fasting as I wasn't sure how I would manage. Looking back now I think I'd have been fine! 
  • Use up my Carmex lip balm so I can buy a new one - I have a few too many and decided not to buy new ones till I finish my old ones :) 
  • One final goal: plan a day out to see my friend - let's hope it works!

Ramadan 2015: Self-Belief

The first time I thought about ramadan this year - really really really thought about it and realised how close it really was - was about a week before on a walk home when my cousin said this to me: 
"I'm not going to lie to you F, it's gonna be tough".
This is probably the most truthful thing I've heard because my cousin wasn't trying to glam it all up. The prospect of not eating or drinking for a whopping 19 hours isn't appealing and I was doing well of putting that out of my head till then. I love ramadan and when I say I didn't think about it till then, I don't mean that I hadn't thought about Ramadan at all. I thought about the extra prayers, gatherings and talks I would attend, feasts we would have, donating to charities, potential cakes and biscuits I would make for Eid, the family gatherings, tasty food, fruit and drinks, the late nights and odd social hours - so yes, I was thinking about Ramadan. - Just not how long I wouldn't be able to eat and drink for. 

And then Ramadan began. I knew it was going to be long - there were numerous articles in the media expressing concern with the hours muslims would stay hungry for, but not once did I think I wouldn't be able to do it. Not once did I doubt my ability to fast for the day or month. Others did. Actually a lot of people did. I'm sure even you did at one point. I mean come on, 19 hours is one heck of a long time to not eat or drink WHILST continuing with your normal daily routine. 

I keep getting asked strange questions at work and whilst I'm out and about like:

  • "How do you manage?" 
  • "You can't even drink water?"
  • "This heat makes it harder doesn't it?" 
  • "Are you sure you'll be ok?" 
  • "Do you eat all night?" 
Surprisingly, alhamdulillah, I've been managing fine without food or water for the whole day. Yes, the heat does make it harder because I can't refuel with water - that's hard. But not impossible. And no, no matter how much I try, it's not possible for me to eat all night. What would be helpful is if our bodies could store water like camels because that's what I get full from really quickly - drinking too much water!

Now remember, there is more to Ramadan than just staying hungry. It's also about having more control and discipline within ourselves, appreciating and a realising blessings and also to be humble and generous to those less fortunate. But it seems that not eating and drinking is something that we are all well aware of and so this is often the topic of conversation. 

Anyway, the most common thing I've heard this Ramadan is: 

"I'd never be able to do it!" 

My response to this has nearly always been to assure the person telling me this that I think they would, and it's true, I do think they would be able to do it. I just wonder why people don't have that confidence in themselves to believe they can. It was hard at the beginning but I always knew I would be ok. See, here's the thing, you have to believe in yourself and try things - that's what I've been taught and it works for me.

Tariq Ramadan has a great quote about fasting and this is what you can get from fasting even if you aren't doing it for religious reasons. 

So there, moral of this post is: a little self-belief goes a long way - have faith in yourself and your own abilities!

TreatYoSelf&Plan #2


So this is my second post in the TreatYoSelf&Plan link up with Italian Hurricane :) First let me say that the response to this link up has been awesome! The other posts are so cool and it's great to see other peoples targets and treats - keep going all!! Don't forget to check the other great posts out and why not join yourself - we all deserve treats!

Last week:
  • Finish reading a book - It saddens me to say that I haven't finished the book yet :( I have read over half which is a good thing but not finished! 
  • Started reading the new Ms Marvel book - yes, yes please! I love Ms Marvel :)
  • Work on getting myself a website - I DID IT! I actually did it. This was something I have been thinking about for a long time and after setting this goal last week, I just did it. It's all work in progress but it's live people, LIVE!!! click right here to see the page I'd really appreciate feedback and any comments so go on, tell me what you think! And hint, if you click 'New Products' at the top of the page there are a few things for sale :) 
  • Doodle on more items!! - achieved!

Next Week's Goals: 

  • Ahem, finish the book I'm still reading, 
  • There's a post I've been meaning to write about fasting - write it up this week,
  • Share my new website as much as I can - ok so this sounds a bit crazy because I have a new website but I haven't really shared it with many people...I know, I'm odd. So one on the goals for this week is to actually share it :) Also, if you like what you see when you visit the page  feel free to share too!! 
So overall, I'm quite pleased. I didn't finish my book but did everything else - including a website!!
